Portrait Workshop Big Hit
On Saturday, Dec. 3, Copley artist Dianne Panarelli Miller taught a portrait workshop at the Patriot Place Gallery to six members of the Foxboro Art Association as onlookers streamed through the Gallery. The model was the beautiful Joanne Sylvia, pictured above, who somehow managed to keep a straight face most of the day while students and teacher exchanged witty conversation. Meanwhile curious visitors wandered through the gallery, looking over the painters shoulders in awe of seeing real painters paint live. There was lots of unsolicited praise from members of the public -- so much so that we might have to do it again. Speaking of which, Dianne Panarelli Miller will return next Saturday, Dec. 10, to paint half-hour portrait sketches for $100. And even if you don't want to have your portrait painted, you are invited to come and watch a real pro in action. She will begin at 11 am and end sometime that afternoon. The three guest artists this weekend will be Marilyn Healey, Brenda Doucette and Remya Suraj.

Weekend of Dec. 2-4
This weekend's Guest Artists are painters Linda Hafey and Remya Suraj and sculptor Steve Gaul. In additon, this Saturday, Dec. 3, Copley artist Dianne Panarelli Miller will conduct a live workshop in portrait painting at the gallery for six lucky artists. But everyone else is invited to drop by and check out the event.
On the following day, Sunday, The Patriots are scheduled to severely trounce the Indianopolis Colts. So if you plan to visit the gallery this weekend, you may want to do it Friday or Saturday.
On the following Saturday, Dec. 10, Dianne Panarelli Miller will appear in encore and paint half-hour portaraits for $100. What a great Christmas present idea! Anyone interested in having a portrait done should arrive at the gallery by 1 pm. And even if you don't want a portrait, you can still drop by and observe how she manages to accomplish this seemingly impossible task. We are located 2 doors down from Dunkin Donuts and our hours are Friday 5-9, Saturday 1-9, (the workshop will be 10-3), and Sunday 11-6 (depending on the football traffic -- if there is a game that day).

Foxboro Art Association in October
Sixty members of the Foxboro Art Association are proudly exhibiting their talent this month at the gallery. Because of the breadth and number of the work being exhibited, more than one visit to the gallery may be needed to take it all in. The pieces are hung according to the medium used, water colors on the left, oils in the rear, pastels and mixed media on the right. It is an amazing show, and testament to the dazzling talent of so many local artists. The gallery is open only on weekends: Friday 5-9, Saturday 1-9, and Sunday 11-6. A reception is planned for next Saturday, Oct. 8, 2-4 pm.

"No, They Made My Day!"
Another magical moment at The Artist's Studio & Gallery at Patriot Place occurred this past weekend. Dick Fotland, one of our weekend Featured Artists, had started an oil painting when a young family entered the art gallery. One of the young girls was standing there watching him paint and looked to be really absorbing everything Dick was doing.
Dick turned to her and said, "Would you like to paint?" The young girl did not say anything. So when Dick asked her for the second time, he also handed her the big brush he was using.
She looked back at her Mom & Dad, who said it was okay, and with a huge smile on her face, she started painting. Dick gave her younger sister a brush too and the two of them painted for almost a half hour.
When finished, Dick gave them their canvas masterpiece to take home. No doubt it is now the centerpiece of her bedroom.
After they left, I turned to Dick and said, "You just made those two little girls' day!" And that's when Dick said to me, "No, they just made my day!" Dick, having grandchildren of his own, really enjoyed introducing them to the world of oil painting.
Later that same day, I looked over and Dick had enlisted two ladies, who had been strolling through the art gallery, to help him finish a painting of two sail boats anchored out in the bay. Neither were artists, but after about twenty minutes, the painting looked great and both of the ladies, with huge smiles, described their time at The Artist's Studio & Gallery at Patriot Place as an unexpected but enjoyable therapeutic session.

Bob Noreika paints The Art Gallery at Patriot Place
Last night at the Foxboro Art Association meeting, Bob Noreika, the artist demonstrator, decided to paint from a photo of The Art Gallery at Patriot Place! He had originally planned to paint boats, but there were several photos on hand at the meeting of our recent Paint Out and he got inspired to paint that instead.

Honey, Healey & Doucette Aug. 5-7
Pictured above is one of many wilderness paintings by Katherine Honey, a North Attleboro artist, who was inspired by the Ken Burns television series to try to capture the beauty of our National Parks. This painting of the Grand Tetons is one such example. Come and see the rest of her beautiful American wilderness paintings. Katherine joins returning featured artists Marilyn Healey and Brenda Doucette, both of whom had such a good time last weekend that they agreed to return for a second straight weekend. If you get a chance, drop by this weekend and say hello. And don't forget, we are inviting all artists to participate in a massive "Paintout at Patriot Place" Saturday afternoon, Aug. 20.

The Art Gallery at Patriot Place is in the news! Evie Malm wrote a wonderful article about the gallery for the Foxboro Reporter which was then picked up by the Attleboro Sun Chronicle. Evie also took the accompanying photos that I've reposted here on our blog along with their captions.
